Glasgow June 08 Visit (Part One)
It would seem not so long ago my week trip to Scotland was made. So within a few weeks I was back again. Some unfinished business as they say. Glasgow was a place penciled in for this visit and I knew this involved visiting some of it’s suburban towns. Glasgow main operator is First Glasgow, serving areas such as Combernauld, Motherwell, Clydebank etc. There are also a number of smaller operators such as McKindless, Whitelaws and Coakley’s for starters, a place for it’s variety and a haven of former London vehicles.
I have been to this place before and perhaps it deserved more of an explore. I recall my last visit involved visiting Motherwell the first time to photo some of the Hutchison operation, which shortly sold out to First.
So off on an early flight from Stansted on a low cost operator and an hour in Prestwick in Ayrshire an area which is bounded within the PTE area of SPT. A frequent half hourly service from Glasgow Central (High Level)-Ayr linking some of the Ayrshire towns to the City. Hamilton was the first port of call with as described earlier as variety territory. My eagle eye was on some of the independents with some former London workhorses, I wasn’t to be disappointed. Coakley’s has plenty of former London darts from Metroline and London General. The same could be said with McKindless who seem to have some London United, London General, Metrobus, Arriva London and Metroline vehicles running around the streets of Glasgow. Some looking in better condition and sadly some run to the ground. More in part two soon.
- McKindless with former Leaside Buses M939, A939SUL in Hamilton
- 62936, T736JGB, First Glasgow
- Coakley’s dart on a local service between Hamilton and Motherwell
